When the global attention has been glued to economic melodrama in EU over the past 8 months some of the Eastern European emerging economies have been keeping the flag fluttering. Providing a providential escape route to the groveling steel mills in EU countries has helped them gloss over the cost. It is learnt that HRC prices are edging up to EUR 540 per tonne basis parity for March deliveries in Italy. A prominent HRC producer in Italy is offering at EUR 550 per tonne to EUR 570 per tonne Ex Warehouse. Closure of Smederevo US Steel Mill in Yugoslavia has enlivened proceedings. Domestic producers are offering EUR 590 per tonne basis EW for April shipment.
